I got an email from WordPress this morning to say that today marks my three year anniversary on here. Three years. I can’t believe it’s been that long since I started blogging. I’m very aware that I’m not the best blogger. It’s only over the last few weeks that I’ve actually updated my blog regularly, and I really will try to continue that!
I’ve found the time to read a bit more recently, so there should be a few more book reviews coming your way, as well as general ponderings about my daily life. I also have plans to do the A-Z blog challenge again next year, so that should be fun! Continue reading “My 3 Year Anniversary (On WordPress)”
You may probably already know this, but I’m gonna say it again for those of you that might have missed it – I’m a massive Harry Potter fan. (I mean, who isn’t?) So, obviously, when one of my friends from my Theatre group asked me to be on her team for a Harry Potter quiz, I wasn’t exactly going to say no.
The event was organised by Muggle Mastermind. You can find their Facebook page here. They are only doing these quizzes in my local area at the moment, but I’m sure they’ll expand quickly as they grow in popularity. It was very well organised, and it was probably the best run quiz I’ve ever been to. The team tables were set up like the great hall, picture above. A lot of thought had been put into it. This one may seem obvious, but I think it’s worth writing about. You don’t have to copy someone that you know completely, as that may be a bit too obvious if they ever pick your book up, but you can take certain traits from them.
For example, my first book ‘Reality is in a Dream’ has two characters that are exaggerated forms of two of my old school friends. Certain events that take place in the book involving the main character, Liliana, actually took place during my time at school. It’s quite funny, because I once had a reviewer tell me that she thought these character’s actions were not believable, and yet it actually happened to me. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child – J.K. Rowling – 4 Stars
Blurb: It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband, and father of three school-age children.
While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.
I was so excited to read this, and though I tried to hang on in the hope that I’d see it on stage first, I couldn’t. Tickets are almost impossible to get, and when it comes to Harry Potter, I have no willpower.
The fact that I managed to read this in the space of a few hours is a testament to how good it is. I couldn’t put it down – I just had to know how it would end. Continue reading “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child – J.K. Rowling”
A-Z Blog Challenge 2016 – Ron Weasley
Finally, a character that I actually have something to say about. If I have to explain where Ron Weasley is from, I only have one thing to say to you – “WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?” Seriously, I’m gonna presume that everyone knows who Ron is.
Ron, along with Hagrid, was one of those characters that I would have been devastated had they not made it to the end. He’s just the cutest character and most loyal friend. Continue reading “R – Ron Weasley”
A-Z Blog Challenge 2016 – Hermione Granger
There are a lot of characters that I could have used here for the letter ‘H’, but there was no way I couldn’t feature Hermione here. She is literally me, except I never got my Hogwarts letter. Must still be lost in the post…
I love books, I love to learn, I have bushy hair and I don’t have a huge amount of friends, just a small group of true friends. I can relate to Hermione on so many levels, it’s almost like she was written about me. Continue reading “H – Hermione Granger”
