Vicky & Co. by John Pibworth – A New Play

Vicky and Co. Cover - John Pibworth - Lauren Mayhew AuthorThis may look like a book review, but it isn’t. Of course, I will be telling you how amazing this play is, but I am completely biased as John is, in fact, a friend of mine. The play is amazing though…

John Pibworth is the set designer for my theatre group, Brightlight Theatre Company. I’ve known him for just over two years now, though we didn’t properly start talking until about a year ago when he found out about my books. I’ve heard that he’s a fantastic actor, though since I’ve been a part of the group, we’ve not managed to entice him onto the stage. Maybe if we perform his play, we might be able to get him back for one final time.

I’m not sure how long ago he wrote Vicky & Co.. It was about a year ago that he asked if I could help him make it available to the general public and I was more than happy to help, though it was delayed a lot because of my commitments within Brightlight. In the end, John’s sister offered to help by typing the play up onto Word so that I could then take over with the formatting. Continue reading “Vicky & Co. by John Pibworth – A New Play”

My Current WIP – Update 1

Cycles of War - My Current WIP - Lauren Mayhew AuthorNow that I’m no longer directing a play for my theatre group (which went really well), or writing blogs for the A-Z Challenge, I actually have a spare minute or two to go over Cycles of War (Working Title), my current WIP. You can catch up on all of my A-Z blogs here. If you haven’t read about Cycles of War yet, go here and here to see why it’s taking me so long to do anything and what I was up to last time I stopped procrastinating.

So, since my last post, I have managed to change the names of all the ships and I’ve even attempted to make them relevant to the country that the ships originated from. I don’t want to specify which countries are involved though. With this book it’s way too easy to offend people, so I’m avoiding being too specific, but a few vague hints are good enough. I’d love to know people’s thoughts when I finally finish it. I’ve also managed to change the majority of the names of the characters too, which I’m very happy about. I needed to get that done before I carried on with anything else. Continue reading “My Current WIP – Update 1”

My Current WIP

Writing and Editing - Lauren Mayhew AuthorAlthough I haven’t done a lot of writing on Cycles of War recently (read about it here), I have been working on it in a different sense. After picking out the most obvious grammatical errors, I decided to work on the characters. I created an excel spreadsheet for this – I really do love a good spreadsheet – that detailed the characters original name, job, physical description, which county they’re from etc. Not only will this make my life a lot easier when I properly start working on the book again, it’s been quite therapeutic too.

I suffer from the usual author syndrome of ‘forgetting what my characters look like’. I’m not even joking. In one of the first editions of my first book, Reality is in a Dream, Samson’s hair colour changed mid-way through the book. He was always blond in my head, so I don’t know why he then became brown haired at one point. Having a spreadsheet to reference all of this will stop mistakes like this from occurring, I hope! I’ve Started Writing Again

Lauren Mayhew Author NotebookThere’s nothing worse than writer’s block, especially when you’re between projects. I know what I’m supposed to be doing, I’m just finding it hard getting round to doing it. I have so many projects in my head, but I don’t want to start too many. If I do, I’ll never complete any of them, I’ll just keep starting new ones.

Over the last few weeks, I’ve slowly been reading through the book that I wrote for NaNoWriMo. It’s got a Working Title – Cycles of War. This is what it’s been called for about ten years now, though I didn’t properly start writing it until November 2016. I finished reading the other day, adjusting a few things here and there, but not really editing properly yet. I just wanted to slowly get my way back into the world that I created. It was very eye-opening actually, as the book isn’t nearly as finished as I thought it was. Continue reading “I’ve Started Writing Again”
