Now You’re Gone

Now You're gone - Number 1 Singles - Lauren Mayhew AuthorOn the 19th January 2008, Basshunter’s ‘Now You’re Gone’ hit the number one spot.

Now You’re Gone: I have so many memories of this song. Being fifteen at the time of its release, I obviously never got to hear it in a club, which is where I think a lot of people grew to love it. I think I first heard this song at my cousin’s house. My sister and I used to go round to my cousin’s house at least once a week, if not more. We wouldn’t really do a lot, except for talking to people on MSN Messenger, remember that? Or we played silly games whilst listening to music. Continue reading

When You Believe

When You Believe by Leon Jackson - Lauren Mayhew AuthorOn 29th December 2007, Leon Jackson’s ‘When You Believe‘ hit the number one spot.

When You Believe: I was so happy when Leon won the X-Factor. As far as I remember, I wanted him to win as soon as I saw his audition, all those years ago. I can’t actually believe that it’s a whole ten years since Leon won. It really doesn’t feel that long ago. Continue reading

What A Wonderful World

What A Wonderful World by Katie Melua and Eva Cassidy - Lauren Mayhew AuthorOn 22nd December 2007 Katie Melua and Eva Cassidy’s ‘What A Wonderful World’ hit the number one spot.

What A Wonderful World: I vaguely remember this song coming out, but I don’t think I ever listened to it properly until now. Obviously, I know the Louis Armstrong version better than any version that’s ever been released.  This is nothing like the original, but it is a good version. There’s nothing worse than a cover of a song that is so different to the original. Luckily this one is good! Continue reading

Bleeding Love

Bleeding Love by Leona Lewis - Lauren Mayhew AuthorOn 3rd November 2007 Leona Lewis’ ‘Bleeding Love’ hit the number one spot.

So, do you remember this, when I used to write about the number 1 single from ten years ago? I’ve decided to start again, but not necessarily to write a story about myself, more to let you know how I feel about the song. If I haven’t listened to it before, I’ll give an honest review of what I think. Song reviews, but with a little of my memories in it too.

Bleeding Love: I loved this song from the moment I first heard it. I loved Leona on the X-Factor, and even though I was a fan of Ray Quinn too, I knew that Leona had to win. It’s just one of those songs that you can’t help but sing along to, even though you know you’re doing it no justice at all. Continue reading

Shuffle Play Questions

Shuffle Play Questions - Lauren Mayhew AuthorI’ve done one of these before, but I’m almost certain I cheated a little. There were either answers that made no sense at all, or I was embarrassed to admit to some of the music on my iPod. This time, I’m gonna do it properly!

Here are 20 questions that I’m answering with Shuffle Play on my iPod. Hopefully some of them work well enough to be amusing. I’m going to put the title of the song first, then the artist, then the album/ single that it’s from. Continue reading

Don’t Stop Me Now

Don't Stop Me Now - McflyI’m gonna switch this up a bit. Instead of writing a post according to what was number 1 this time 10 years ago, I’m going to write a post every week (hopefully) based on a number 1 single from the past. This means more regular posts, as some singles stayed at the top spot for 9 weeks or more and it seems silly to wait.

I’ll be selective with this, and I’ll choose songs that I know. Even though I’m writing a story about me in relation to the title of the song, I find it a lot easier if I actually know the song. Continue reading

Maneater by Nelly Furtado - Lauren MayhewThe Number 1 song this time 10 years ago was Maneater by Nelly Furtado.

I remember when this song came out and I disliked it from the moment I heard it. I have no idea why though. Listening to it now, it’s really not that bad!

Maneater: Well, if you look at one of my most recent posts, you’ll realise that this ‘title’ does not apply to me. I am in no way a ‘maneater’. In all honesty, I’m pretty much invisible to the opposite sex.

It’s not Nelly Furtado that I have a problem with, I don’t actually know that much about her, I think it’s the lyrics that wind me up. Continue reading

I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker (With Flowers in My Hair)

I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker by Sandi Thom - Lauren MayhewThe number 1 song this time 10 years ago was I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker (With Flowers in My Hair) by Sandi Thom.

I remember this one too, and looking down the list of number one’s after this, there’s a few amazing songs coming up!

I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker (With Flowers in My Hair): This one is going to be tricky for me to talk about because I don’t ever intend on becoming a Punk Rocker. I won’t lie, the Punk Rocker hairstyles are pretty impressive and so is some of the fashion, but I think Punk Rock is a bit too aggressive for me. Continue reading

Crazy by Gnarls Barkley - Lauren MayhewThe number 1 song this time 10 years ago was Crazy by Gnarls Barkley.

It’s been a while since I did this, so I’m going to start it up again.

Crazy: I remember this song and I absolutely loved it – still do! I think this might have been the point in my life when I started to appreciate music, and back then I was a little bit crazy. Not crazy in a psycho killer way, just not afraid to make a fool of myself. Continue reading

Thunder in My Heart Again

Thunder in My Heart Again by Meck feat. Leo SayerThe number 1 song this time 10 years ago was Thunder in My Heart Again by Meck featuring Leo Sayer.

Again, this is another one that I’ve never listened to. I should probably start listening to music of the 2000’s.

Thunder in My Heart Again: A few months ago, I signed up to website that would allow me to design covers for self-published authors and sell them on there. With everything going on with my book, I haven’t had the time to start. Now that my second book is in the final stages of being ready to publish, I’ve started to look at this website again.

I started to get a really creative feeling and I can’t wait to get started! It’s like I’ve got ‘Thunder in My Heart Again’.

The website is called The Book Cover Designer – click the purple text to see the website. Hopefully I’ll have a design or two up soon that I can share with you all.

Until the next time,
Lauren x
