After almost a year and a half of constant participation with my theatre group, I have decided to take a break. I will not be auditioning for our Christmas production, as there are so many other things that I’d like to focus on. I have purposely made plans for tonight so that I can’t be coerced into auditioning. I will be as far away as possible from that hall.
I absolutely love Brightlight Theatre, but I need some of my evenings back so that I can read a book, write a book or even go to the cinema. I haven’t been able to do that much over the last few months because I’ve purely been focusing on learning lines. I wasn’t even meant to be auditioning for the September production of ‘Welcome to Our Village, Please Invade Carefully’, but I landed myself with one of the main roles and put myself under a lot of pressure.
Playing Field Commander Uljabaan was a fantastic experience. It was the biggest part I’d ever had, with the most lines and the most stage time too. I got to be very, very silly and it was great to step right out of my comfort zone. The play as a whole was fantastic. I loved every minute of it. I’d love to step back into Uljabaan’s shoes again one day. But for now, I get to relax a little.
I have multiple projects that I need to start working on. They’ve all just been sitting around gathering dust, some literally. I’m not sure where I want to start, so I think I’ll just go with the one that will be the most relaxing. I started drawing something in July – yes, I said July – and I need to get it finished. It’s not going to be the best bit of art I’ve ever made, but it’s the first time I’ve drawn anything in a long time, so it feels great to have a pencil back in my hand. If it turns out alright, I’ll show you.
I also really need to get going with the whole learning to play the flute thing. I’ve been itching to start for soooo long, but just haven’t had a spare hour or so to get going. I can imagine that will be both relaxing and frustrating, especially to begin with, however it’ll be a great achievement once I’ve got the hang of it.
Then there’s the writing projects that I’ve had on hold for months. I’ve now got some really good feedback for the murder mystery that I wrote, so that’s quite high up on my list of things to do. And then there’s Cycles of War (Working Title) that I’ve been partially working on for nearly two years. It’s a big story. I just need to motivate myself a bit more to sit down and write it. I love it, I just hope everyone else does too.
Photography is also another thing that I need to get on top of. I’ve slowly been updating my photography website for weeks. Hopefully I can get a few customers. You never know, by this time next year I might be able to work part time only and have my photography as a main job. We’ll see… I also want to start looking into song writing, but that’s probably bottom of the list right now. Maybe once I’ve started learning to play the flute properly. It might give me some inspiration.
In other news, I start a new job next Monday. It’s basically the same thing I’m doing now but in a smaller organisation with more money and better hours. It’s a win-win, though I am going to miss some of the people I currently work with. Fingers crossed everything works out for me!
I think that’s everything that I needed to say. I’ll aim to finish my photography website today and get that launched. We’ll see if that actually happens, or if I sit procrastinating for another week!
Until the next time,
