I have definitely done it again… I’ve missed a month of blogging because life got in the way. Bloody life. If you’ve read my last few posts, you’ll be familiar with my theatre group and the fact that I was rehearsing for three different shows at once. I’m extremely happy to say that there’s only one left to rehearse for and it’s going well, ish. We’re supposed to be scripts down by the 14th August and I’ve learnt the first 20 pages. I’ll be fine, that’s what I keep telling myself anyway.
Theatre isn’t the only thing that’s been holding me back though. I went away to France at the end of July, only for two nights, but it was my first trip abroad in 10 years. I also had just over a week in annual leave from work, and blogging just didn’t feel like the right thing to do on my days’ off!
I’m also having a few problems with my job at the moment. My apprenticeships contract is coming to an end and I was hoping that they’d keep me on as a full time, fully paid member of the team, but that’s not the case. They’ve offered me a year long extension to my apprenticeship contract, but I haven’t really been approached about a new apprenticeship. I don’t really have much choice but to sign the contract, earning a pittance in the process. Hopefully I can find another job quickly, otherwise I’m going to be forced into doing another apprenticeship that I don’t want to do.
It’s a tricky situation. I know an employer doesn’t have to keep you on after an apprenticeship, I just expected my workplace to be a bit more organised about these things. I knew that my contract would soon be coming to an end, but I was the one that had to start the ball rolling with conversations about the potential to keep working here. If I hadn’t said anything, I’m not sure if they would have noticed until the last minute when I really would have been screwed.
It’s been on my mind a lot lately, so it’s kind of stopped me from wanting to blog. Though it has allowed me to think about more creative ways of earning money, besides my books! (Click this text to be taken to my book page) I’m definitely going to give Photography another look. Over the next few weeks I’m going to try and spruce up my photography website with new photos and extra pages showcasing the work that I can do. It’ll give it a more professional look, especially if I list prices of services too. If I can get the ball rolling on that, I might not need to get a ‘proper’ job.
This is all speculation at the moment though. I’ve tried photography before and it didn’t work out for me, but I know I was being lazy with it. I need to put a lot more effort into advertising it, as well as my books, if it’s going to be a success!
Hopefully I can show you my website soon. I also hope that I can write a blog in a few months time that’s a bit more positive!
Until the next time,
