POV by McFly & Personal Soldier by The Wanted – 54 Plays – 42 ‘P’ Songs in Total

So, this is one of two letters that feature two songs with the same amount of plays. Instead of writing about both of them in detail, I’ll write about my favourite of the two and add a little paragraph at the end for the other one. The lucky winner for the letter ‘P’ is… POV by McFly. It’s from the Radio:Active album again and is probably one of the more ‘rocky’ songs on there. If you’ve followed my previous posts, you’ll know when I first heard this song, back in 2008. I’m pretty sure it was love at first listen. POV stands for Point of View if you didn’t know. There’s a fan video at the bottom of the post for you to have a listen yourself.

I think I love POV so much because of the contrast between the heavy guitar track and then the gentle piano solos. The lyrics and vocals help too. In itself, this song is a masterpiece. It’s funny how I seem to like the album tracks more than the majority of singles that are released from them. But maybe POV was just too ‘rocky’ at the time of its release. The charts were full of pop singles and the occasional Kings of Leon song. I think this is the point when McFly started to lose their chart dominance. Bloody pop music.

I’m looking at you from another point of view
I don’t know how the hell I fell in love with you
I’d never wish for anyone to feel the way I do

The lyrics above make me wonder how many people have done this. Taken a long hard look at someone and thought, ‘Why am I still with you?’ I know I’ve definitely done that with some of my old friends. You think you have a deep connection with them and then one day the illusion shatters and you see them for what they really are. The opposite has also happened. I’ve known people for a year or so, never really liked them that much, until one day I looked at them from another point of view. It’s strange how it happens, but also extremely helpful if that person is toxic to you.

In third place was Please Don’t Stop the Rain by James Morrison. I’m a little shocked that James doesn’t appear more on this list, as I find his music so therapeutic. He will be appearing a bit later on, but I wanted to mention him here, even if only briefly. You can see the official video for Please Don’t Stop the Rain here.

Finally, I’ll talk about Personal Soldier by The Wanted. It’s from their debut album, The Wanted – original, I know. (Click the purple text for a fan video.)  Personal Soldier is basically about a person protecting you when you’re feeling down or going through a rough time. This song gave a lot of strength to many young people at the time of the album’s release, myself included. It almost felt like the band knew of our struggles and was sending a message to each of us to say that they’d be there for us if we needed help. I really would recommend putting this into a playlist for whenever you’re feeling down.

Until the next time,

A-Z Blogging Challenge 2018 - Lauren Mayhew AuthorA few fun facts: Of the 1,199 songs on my iPod – I know, feeble compared to some – there have been a total of 16,039 plays. This equates to an average of 13.4 plays per song. If each song is an average of 3 minutes long, this means that I have spent approximately 801.95 hours listening to the music on my iPod or 33.4 days. This doesn’t include the many times that I have watched and re-watched music videos or the time before the iPod. I can guarantee things would look a little different if I could get the data from my MP3 Player or Windows Media Player days.

It’s funny, but while I often know lyrics well enough to sing along, I often don’t “listen” to the lyrics. Sometimes I’m quite surprised when I realise what it is I’m singing or what a song is about.
