Is This Love by Whitesnake – 62 Plays – 101 ‘I’ Songs in Total

Is This Love by Whitesnake is one of the classics of the 80’s. I was born in the early 90’s, so the first time I heard this song would have been around ten years after it was released. I’m presuming I heard it on one of the cassettes my dad used to play in the car. My mum being a big fan of Guns N’ Roses meant it was inevitable that I’d fall in love with the ‘rock’ genre. I realise now that I only have two Whitesnake songs on my iPod, so I might just have to listen to some more of their music.

Not only do I love the instrumental track, I love David Coverdale’s voice. He has so much power when he sings, but he looks like he makes barely any effort. I wish I could sing this song in tune, but I really struggle with how low it is. I can’t really sing that high either, so I’m more of the mid-range singer. None of which helps with this song. The video for Is This Love is at the bottom of this post.

Is this love that I’m feeling,
Is this the love, that I’ve been searching for
Is this love or am I dreaming,
This must be love,

The lyrics in Is This Love are quite repetitive, so I struggled with picking out my favourite part. I chose the chorus to kind of point out the gentle nature of the song. With a rock band like Whitesnake, I wouldn’t expect such an emotion driven song, and yet they’ve pulled it off. Having never been in love, this is the sort of thing that I’m sure I’d be asking myself at the beginning of a relationship. Will I know immediately if I’ve fallen in love, or will the realisation creep up on me slowly? It’s obviously something that I’d like to experience one day, but I do worry that I won’t know what love is – which brings me on nicely to the next section.

I Want To Know What Love Is by Foreigner was fifth on the list with 39 plays. I was expecting this to be second or third, not fifth. I must listen to it more. This song resonates with my love life so much. So. Much. You can watch the video here.  As I was looking for the video on YouTube, I couldn’t help but notice all of the other songs from the 80’s that I love so much. Alone by Heart, Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler, Black Velvet by Alannah Myles, It Must Have Been Love by Roxette and the list goes on. It really was a great time for music. Until the next time,

A-Z Blogging Challenge 2018 - Lauren Mayhew AuthorA few fun facts: Of the 1,199 songs on my iPod – I know, feeble compared to some – there have been a total of 16,039 plays. This equates to an average of 13.4 plays per song. If each song is an average of 3 minutes long, this means that I have spent approximately 801.95 hours listening to the music on my iPod or 33.4 days. This doesn’t include the many times that I have watched and re-watched music videos or the time before the iPod. I can guarantee things would look a little different if I could get the data from my MP3 Player, or Windows Media Player days.

Hair bands, though! I miss the 80s. My girls recognize it as a golden era of music. We sure knew it at the time!

When you’re in love, you’ll know it. It’ll make you want to share your ice cream and make you all dizzy.

I’m glad i found your site. I’m so far behind I haven’t had a chance to visit many. I’m an 80’s kid and you’re playing all my songs, lol. I love your Whitesnake choice, but Foreigner “I Want to Know What Love is?” Really brings back fond memories. Oh and Total Eclipse of the Heart, my favorite. Am I missing something. Did I read that on today’s Letter I? I am obsessed with the song. I’ll be back tomorrow.

I’m a child of the 80s so I know Whitesnake. Not my favourite, probably because it was worn out by the radio station in my home town. But I love the other music you listed.
