End of the World by McFly – 75 Plays – 36 ‘E’ Songs in Total
End of the World is from McFly’s fifth album, Above the Noise. This was the point in which my obsession with McFly was at its peak, so I would have bought this album as soon as it was released in November 2010, just in time for my 18th birthday. When I first heard the song, I loved it. There was just something about it that made me want to listen to it over and over again. And that’s exactly what I did. My sister isn’t a massive fan of McFly, but even she liked End of the World.
I guess this song is just a little bit silly, that’s why I like it so much. The whole album was completely different to anything that McFly had done before and although there are some gems on the album, I wasn’t that keen on the album as a whole. From what I’ve heard, McFly aren’t that keen either. Above the Noise really couldn’t compete with their third or fourth albums.
Like all other McFly fans, I’m eagerly waiting album six, though I think I’ll have quite a few more years to wait. All of them have their own solo projects and now that ¾ of them have kids, it’s just not practical to spend that much time away at the moment. I know album six will come. I’m happy to wait. You can find a fan video for End of the World at the bottom of the post.
I’d sell my soul to the devil
If I had one to give
The line between good and evil
Is not a safe place to live
As I’ve said in previous posts, it’s not really the lyrics that I love so much about End of the World, it’s the vocals. I love both Tom’s and Danny’s voices, even Dougie when he gets to sing, but in this song in particular, it’s Danny that stands out. He has more of a ‘rocky’ tone to his voice and it suits this song very well.
I was sure that E.T. by Katy Perry would have been at the top of this list. It’s second, but with only 49 plays. I’m talking about the album version, not the one with the rap in the middle. I love that song and if I had to choose between E.T. and End of the World, I’d probably choose E.T., sorry McFly! Both songs are amazing, but I think maybe I’ve listened to End of the World a few too many times. You can listen to E.T. here.
Until the next time,

A few fun facts: Of the 1,199 songs on my iPod – I know, feeble compared to some – there have been a total of 16,039 plays. This equates to an average of 13.4 plays per song. If each song is an average of 3 minutes long, this means that I have spent approximately 801.95 hours listening to the music on my iPod or 33.4 days. This doesn’t include the many times that I have watched and re-watched music videos or the time before the iPod. I can guarantee things would look a little different if I could get the data from my MP3 Player, or Windows Media Player days.
I like both, but I’d choose ET too

I know all about waiting for new albums from favourites – have been in that position several times 🙂 I hope it comes true one day for you. My obsession as a teenager was A-ha and I am finally getting to see them live this summer – so sometimes things come to those who wait 🙂

It’s nearly midnight here, so I can’t play the youtube clip (the bedrooms are close) but I think I recognise the lyrics! If I’ve got the song right it’s one I like to sing too =)

It’s best played loud, so probably not a good idea to play it!

I haven’t heard this song. I tend to avoid dystopian (or even the scent of it) but when I clicked the song–wow. It is amazing.
