Animal by The Wanted – 60 Plays – 60 ‘A’ Songs in Total
I honestly don’t know when I first heard this song, but it must have been shortly after The Wanted performed it in the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge in 2011. I definitely don’t remember watching or listening to it live, so it would have been a video that I watched on YouTube. They performed the cover song Animal in the Live Lounge at the same time as their single Gold Forever. Animal was originally sung by Neon Trees. I’d never heard this song before The Wanted covered it.
The way that The Wanted sing it is quite light-hearted and jolly, and that makes it really easy to listen to. It’ll be quite clear throughout this challenge that I love this band. Their music and weekly YouTube videos got me through a lot of depression between the years of 2010 and 2013, so all of their songs mean a lot to me, even the ones I’m not too keen on! Even though this isn’t an original song by The Wanted, I just love the way that it has been performed. The video of them performing this in the Live Lounge is embedded at the bottom of the blog – take a listen! (It’s not the official BBC video, I can’t find it anywhere on Youtube!)
Hush, hush, the world is quiet
Hush, hush we both can’t fight it
It’s us that made this mess
Why can’t you understand?
Whoa, I won’t sleep tonight
It’s not really the lyrics that I pay much attention to in this song, it’s more the vocals that I love, especially the vocals on the lyrics above. Nathan Sykes was always my favourite member of the band. His vocal range is outstanding, and his solo album completely blew me away, so it’s no surprise that my favourite part of the song is his solo verse. It’s a live performance of a song that hasn’t been practised as much as their other songs, so some of the vocals get a bit shaky, but they can still sing better than some people who get the live stages of the X-Factor! You really cannot say a bad word about this band to me. I’m a bit like Gollum when it comes to The Wanted, they are my precioussss.
Of all of the songs on my iPod, I am a little surprised that All Time Low by The Wanted wasn’t at the top. I do have four different versions of the song, and if the plays were all added together, it would top the list, however, that wasn’t the point of this challenge. I saw The Wanted performing All Time Low on This Morning and I was immediately in love with it and them. I really was a fan of this band from the first single. You can see the official video for All Time Low here. Unfortunately, I can’t find the version from This Morning anymore.
Until the next time,

A few fun facts: Of the 1,199 songs on my iPod – I know, feeble compared to some – there have been a total of 16,039 plays. This equates to an average of 13.4 plays per song. If each song is an average of 3 minutes long, this means that I have spent approximately 801.95 hours listening to the music on my iPod or 33.4 days. This doesn’t include the many times that I have watched and re-watched music videos or the time before the iPod. I can guarantee things would look a little different if I could get the data from my MP3 Player, or Windows Media Player days.
