X – Xander Harris

Xander Harris - Lauren Mayhew A-Z Blog Challenge 2016A-Z Blog Challenge 2016 – Xander Harris

I had to get at least one other character from ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ in here somewhere, and although his real name is Alexander Harris, everyone calls him Xander. ‘X’ was quite a hard letter for me to fill in.

Xander is the ‘normal’ one in the scooby gang and by that I mean he doesn’t seem to add much to the group. Buffy is the Slayer, Willow is a Witch, Giles knows everything and is epic!, Oz is a werewolf… Do I need to continue? Xander is human and has no special powers. He’s an ordinary guy with extra-ordinary friends.

You may well be wondering why I like him so much if he’s so ordinary. Well… Xander is the best sort of human being. He knows that he is surrounded by super people and he knows that he’s lucky to have such powerful friends and he never seems to get jealous. There are moments where you can see that he feels left out, but the group never exclude him because he doesn’t contribute, only because they are worried about his safety.

Xander could do many things involving sacrificial rituals, using dark magic or being turned into a Vampire with a soul to catch up with his friends, but he doesn’t. He accepts that he’ll never be like them, so he contributes in the only way that he can – he’s the shoulder to cry on if anyone’s having a bad time of demon hunting.

I honestly don’t think Buffy would have survived as long as she did had she not had Xander by her side. He’s such a loyal friend, willing to sacrifice his life for the greater good. I wish I had a friend like him.
