I – Ianto Jones

Ianto Jones - Lauren Mayhew A-Z Blog Challenge 2016A-Z Blog Challenge 2016 – Ianto Jones

Ianto is yet another one of those characters that sort of lingers in the background. I don’t think it’s until half way through series 1 of Torchwood that his character starts to develop into something more than a minor supporting role.

What I love about Ianto is his dry wit and sarcasm. His character basically defines the ‘British Sense of Humour’. Sarcasm is the best!

To begin with, Ianto is basically the tea boy. He literally makes tea and cleans up after his colleagues and gets zero appreciation for it. He won’t complain though, as he is extremely greatful to be working at Torchwood and will do literally anything to keep his job there.

Above all, Ianto is a loyal friend and colleague. The first episode that he plays a bigger role in is one of my favrourites, even though it is extremely creepy. It’s called ‘Countrycide‘. In previous episodes you never really see Ianto’s relationships with his colleagues, but in ‘Countrycide‘ you see just how good a friend he is. Him and Toshiko have been captured, so Ianto distracts one of their captors and proceeds to head butt him in order for Tosh to be able to escape. He basically sacrifices himself so that she can be free. Not many people would do this for their colleagues, especially when they treat him in the way that they do.

Towards the end, Ianto and Captain Jack Harkness become romantically involved and I absolutely adore their relationship. Ianto also starts to become a more appreciated member of the team, who seems to be one step ahead of everyone else. Out of all of the Torchwood and Doctor Who characters, Ianto will always be one of my favourites, closely followed by Jack!
